Congressman Sorensen Calls on Republicans to Negotiate on Bipartisan Government Funding Bill to Keep Health Care Costs Down

Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) released the following statement after Republicans let the government shutdown after refusing to work with Democrats on a bipartisan government funding bill that would lower health care costs for millions of Americans.
“My neighbors hate the partisan political games DC politicians play at the expense of working families,” said Congressman Sorensen. “Our public servants and American servicemembers are working without pay because Republicans would rather stay on vacation and shut down the government instead of working with Democrats to find solutions. Hurting the American people is their play here and I won’t ever accept that.”
Republicans’ government funding bill does not include an extension of enhanced subsidies for millions of Americans currently covered by the Affordable Care Act. Without an extension, health care premiums are expected to dramatically soar by more than 75% from the previous year and nearly 4 million Americans are at-risk of losing their health insurance. The bill now goes to the U.S. Senate for another vote.
