During the current government shutdown, President Donald Trump and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) are refusing to release available federal funding to cover Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for the month of November.
If you or someone you know is on SNAP, their Illinois LINK card will not be reloaded with new funds starting on November 1st. Any unspent SNAP benefits from October will roll over to November.
Despite the temporary lapse in SNAP funding, there remain other resources for people to get food to feed their families.
You can visit the Illinois Department of Human Services SNAP Federal Impact Center to help locate food pantries and food banks in your community that are providing meals and food.
Families shouldn’t be suffering because of political games in Washington. There is absolutely no reason for SNAP benefits to be paused during a government shutdown when there is plenty of available funding.
Congressman Sorensen is calling on the Administration to obey the law and immediately release the funding for SNAP.
