Sorensen announces funding to treat substance use disorders in Central Illinois

BLOOMINGTON — U.S. Rep. Eric Sorensen, D-Rockford, announced almost $700,000 in funding to help treat substance use disorders and support mental health needs in Central Illinois.
“We all know someone who’s struggled with addiction, whether it’s a friend, family member, or neighbor,” Sorensen said in a news release. “Which is why I’m proud to announce grant funding for our communities that will help people recover from substance abuse and save lives.”
The Department of Health and Human Services awarded $486,685 to Chestnut Health Systems to support drug abuse and addiction research programs in Central Illinois.
The McLean County Center for Human Services was also awarded $196,616 to support its mental health awareness training project that will help look for those struggling with mental health issues.
“This grant will give us all the opportunity to learn more about what each one of us can do to help,” said Joan Hartman, CEO of the McLean County Center for Human Services, in the news release.
