OSF Healthcare Systems in Peoria Was Awarded $750,000 to Expand Healthcare Access to 16,000 People in Rural Areas in IL-17

Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) announced OSF Healthcare in Peoria was awarded $750,000 in federal funding to help expand access to healthcare in rural areas in Illinois’ 17th district.

“With hospitals in Illinois’ 17th district at-risk of shuttering because of Medicaid cuts that House Republicans voted into law, it is more important than ever that we ensure our hospitals have access to federal funding that will allow them to continue serving our neighbors,” said Congressman Sorensen. “Having visited OSF Healthcare in Peoria, I know how essential they are to their community and why we must do whatever we can to keep them afloat. By expanding access to healthcare in rural areas, this funding will improve healthcare for thousands in the district.”

“We’re incredibly grateful to receive the Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant,” said Jennifer Junis, President OSF OnCall Digital Health. “This support allows OSF HealthCare to expand our mobile health services into rural communities to ensure health care access, connections to additional resources, and health education. With three new mobile community medical units, we’ll offer preventive, acute and chronic care through in-person and virtual visits that use advanced technologies to perform physical assessments, in addition to self-scheduling and point-of-care testing. This initiative marks a significant step forward in our OSF Mission to improve health equity and expand access to care. We are honored by the opportunity to serve more patients and make a lasting impact in the communities that need it most.  Together, we’re breaking down barriers and building healthier communities.”

OSF Healthcare Systems in Peoria is receiving a $750,000 Rural Development grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The investment will be used to equip three mobile end-user locations that will service Fulton, Knox, and Livingston counties in Illinois with digital enabled telehealth tools that will allow providers to assess patients. Medical professionals located at OSF Healthcare System in Peoria will deliver healthcare service to three mobile units with medical professionals on board to provide ongoing and preventative healthcare benefitting approximately 16,000 individuals.
