Congressman Sorensen, Senator Duckworth Announce $210,000 to Help Boost Peoria Economy, Create Jobs

The Greater Peoria Economic Development Council Was Awarded $210,000 in Federal Funding to Establish an Economic Development Strategy Promoting Investments and Job Creation
PEORIA, IL - Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) announced the Greater Peoria Economic Development Council has been awarded $210,000 over the next three years from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) to spur private investment and job creation for working families in the region.
“I want to help working families across Illinois 17 afford a home and support their children, but that means we need to continue bringing good-paying jobs to communities to make them sustainable for the next generation,” said Congressman Sorensen. “This funding will help give Peoria and the region a blueprint to bring in new investments, create jobs, and grow the economy into the future.”
“As a hub of agriculture, manufacturing, technology and innovation, Illinois is uniquely prepared for greater investment,” said Senator Duckworth. “Coordination between business leaders and all levels of government is critical to help grow our local economies, and I’ll keep doing everything I can alongside Congressman Sorensen to bring federal support home to Illinois.”
“The Board of Directors, staff and investors of the Greater Peoria EDC are excited to continue its three decade partnership with the US EDA,” said Christopher Setti, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Peoria Economic Development Council. “We have used this annual funding to support the important work of developing and implementing the region’s Big Table Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). But beyond the operational support, GPEDC has leveraged this funding to build an incredible relationship with EDA that has resulted in 8 grants totaling nearly $28 million tens of millions of federal funds invested in Greater Peoria in projects.”
The federal funding comes from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) in the form of a Partnership Planning Grant. The grant will be used to support the development and implementation of a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy, which is designed to bring together the public and private sectors in the creation of an economic development roadmap to diversify and strengthen the regional economy.
