Congressman Sorensen Slams Partisan Funding Bill That Will Raise Health Care Costs for Millions of Americans

September 19, 2025

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) released the following statement after voting against House Republicans’ partisan funding bill that will raise health care costs for millions of Americans.

“In conversations with my neighbors, the number one issue on their minds is high prices and the growing struggle to afford groceries, healthcare, and a home for their families,” said Congressman Sorensen. “After taking a sledgehammer to Medicaid earlier this year, Republicans would rather shutdown the government than give Americans any relief from their relentless efforts to raise the cost of health care. I stand ready with my House colleagues to work across the aisle on a bipartisan funding deal that will help my neighbors afford their health care.”

House Republicans’ government funding bill does not include an extension of enhanced subsidies for millions of Americans currently covered by the Affordable Care Act. Without an extension, health care premiums are expected to dramatically soar by more than 75% from the previous year and nearly 4 million Americans are at-risk of losing their health insurance. The bill now goes to the U.S. Senate for another vote.
