Sorensen Announces Funding for Rockford Law Enforcement to Reduce Violent Crime

ROCKFORD, IL – Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) are announcing nearly $400,000 in federal funding for programs to reduce violent crime.
“I’m proud to stand with the Department of Justice to announce critical funding for local law enforcement to reduce crime in our communities and better serve Illinois families,” said Sorensen. “I will always be an advocate at the federal level to provide law enforcement agencies in Central and Northwestern Illinois the resources they need to do their jobs, especially as they are continually tasked with doing so much on tight budgets.”
$399,019 is coming from the Office of Justice Programs and Bureau of Justice Assistance under the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Formula Grant Program. This project, led by the U. S. Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of Illinois, in partnership with PSN Task Force partners and the Winnebago County Chairman’s Office of Criminal Justice Initiatives, will provide funding to allow the Winnebago County States Attorney’s Office to enhance prosecutions for certain crimes and allow the City of Rockford to acquire equipment to support efforts to apprehend the most violent gun offenders.
