Sorensen Announces Over $14 Million for Peoria International Airport

Funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Will Replace an Older Traffic Control Tower to Meet New Standards
PEORIA, IL – Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) is joining the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to announce $14,010,000 for a new air traffic control tower at General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport.
"Ensuring the safety and stability of our state’s infrastructure is a major priority of mine," said Sorensen. "I look forward to seeing this funding bring Peoria International Airport into the 21st century, and I will continue to make sure that we have a seat at the table when it comes to future infrastructure investments."
The grant funding comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s FY2023 Airport Terminal Program, which awards $1 billion annually for five years to improve airport terminal infrastructure. The award will be used to replace an existing tower that has been in operation since 1959. The new tower will meet updated FAA standards and Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
Congressman Eric Sorensen is the first openly LGBTQ person elected to represent Illinois at the federal level and is a member of the New Democrat Coalition.
