Sorensen Delivers House Floor Speech Remembering Jason Jenkins

April 12, 2024

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) delivered a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives to honor Jason Jenkins, an 18-year-old Rockford student who was murdered in a racially motivated attack while working his shift at Walmart.

“Several of his teachers told me that Jason was an extraordinary young man, known for his personality, positivity, and always looking to make people laugh,” said Sorensen. “Today, I am grieving with the Jenkins family, their neighbors, his team at Walmart, and classmates of Jason at Auburn. This has been a rough few weeks for the Rockford community, but with every tragedy, it is important that we come together as one family to support each other during these difficult moments.”
