Sorensen Joins Biden to Highlight Good-Paying Manufacturing Jobs in Northern Illinois

ROCKFORD, IL – Today, Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) joined President Joe Biden, United Auto Workers (UAW) President Shawn Fain, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and other leaders in Northern Illinois to highlight progress being made to bring good-paying, union manufacturing jobs to the region. 

"I was thrilled to welcome the President and national UAW leaders to the 17^th Congressional District to show them the workforce potential we have here and highlight our progress to create more good-paying, manufacturing jobs in our region,” said Sorensen. “Working across the aisle and leveraging partnerships with the President and colleagues in Congress, I will continue to be a voice for our workers and the middle class in Central and Northwestern Illinois.”

The visit from the leaders comes after UAW’s historic agreement with the big automotive companies, which includes plans to reopen the Belvidere Assembly Plant and bring thousands of UAW jobs back to the Rockford area. 

Last month, Sorensen joined a UAW picket line with workers from Local 1268 to stand in solidarity amid negotiations. You can view Sorensen’s remarks from the picket line last month here. 

Since entering Congress, Sorensen has been a fierce advocate for American workers. This year, Sorensen: 

• Helped introduce the Richard L. Trumka Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act to push back against anti-worker laws and protect workers’ right to organize. Sorensen spoke on the House floor urging for the bill’s passage. 
• Cosponsored the No Tax Breaks for Union Busting Act, which would deny employers a tax deduction for expenses incurred while attempting to influence employees’ labor organization activities. 
• Introduced the All-American Flag Act,which ensures American flags purchased by the federal government are fully made in the United States.
