Sorensen Votes Against Proposal that Makes Critical Cuts in Exchange for Raising the Debt Ceiling

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) released a statement following his vote against a partisan budget proposal that would cost jobs, jeopardize health care and childcare for millions, and cut funding for veterans, schools, and first responders.

"This partisan budget forces seniors to wait longer for decisions about their benefits, threatens veterans' health care, and cuts access to childcare across the state," said Sorensen. "I am disappointed to see these vital resources slashed and Illinois farmers being used as a political football in these negotiations. I’ll continue to work with anyone to pass a budget that works for everyone and strengthens resources for our seniors, veterans, and kids.”

Congressman Eric Sorensen is the first openly LGBTQ person elected to represent Illinois at the federal level and is a member of the New Democrat Coalition. He serves on the House Committee on Agriculture and the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. Prior to serving in Congress, Sorensen was a local meteorologist in Rockford and the Quad Cities for nearly 20 years. His district includes Illinois’ Quad Cities, Rockford, Peoria, and Bloomington-Normal.
