Sorensen Releases Plan to Cut Costs and Grow the Middle Class

WASHINGTON, DC –– Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) released his Plan to Cut Costs for Working Families to reduce prices for everyday goods and grow the middle class.
"My Plan to Cut Costs for Working Families addresses the urgent needs of the middle class across Central and Northwestern Illinois," said Sorensen. "From increasing good-paying, sustainable jobs to lowering the costs of groceries, prescription drugs and so much more, I am committed to delivering solutions that empower hard-working Americans to achieve economic freedom.”
Sorensen’s plan includes priorities that address rising costs and supports the middle class through:
- Using his seat on the House Agriculture Committee to pass a Farm Bill that produces more food in America, lowers prices, increases market competition, empowers farmers and rural communities, incentivizes climate-smart practices, and suspends trade barriers that limit the supply of food.
- Cracking down on big pharma’s delay tactics that keep lower-cost generic drugs out of the hands of patients, capping insulin costs at $35 per month for all Americans and providing cost-sharing to individuals younger than 26 for insulin products covered under private health plans and Medicaid.
- Building on the permitting reform progress secured in the Fiscal Responsibility Act to streamline clean energy infrastructure processes and reduce energy costs for consumers, with a specific focus on energy transmission and electrical grid resiliency.
This newly released plan comes as part of Sorensen’s work in the New Democrat Coalition, a nearly 100-member Congressional caucus devoted to finding workable solutions to our nation’s most pressing issues. Sorensen’s plan provides a roadmap for lawmakers to advance bipartisan policies that will give Americans the tools and opportunities they need to succeed.
