“For over 20 years, I worked to keep communities in Central and Northwest Illinois safe by helping them prepare for severe weather,” said Sorensen. “I am excited to continue my service as their trusted neighbor in Congress, by working to lower costs, increase good-paying jobs, and invest in our rural communities. My job is to represent all my constituents and I’m ready to continue being their trusted voice in the people’s House.”

Sorensen was elected to succeed former Congresswoman Cheri Bustos, who represented Illinois 17th Congressional District since 2013. If you are a resident that needs assistance with the federal government or would like to sign up to receive Sorensen’s newsletter, please visit his website here.

Congressman Eric Sorensen is the first openly LGBTQ person elected to represent Illinois at the federal level and is a member of the New Democrat Coalition. Prior to serving in Congress, Sorensen was a local meteorologist in Rockford and the Quad Cities for nearly 20 years.
