Serving as a local meteorologist for over 20 years required me to be a trusted neighbor to the people in Central and Northwestern Illinois. In Congress, I’m still working to be a trusted voice for the people of Illinois’ 17th District.
That means being willing to work with anyone – Republican or Democrat – to make sure everyone in my District has their needs met. It also means being accountable and transparent about the work I’m doing in Washington on your behalf.

With the 90th anniversary of Social Security approaching, Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) led a group of more than 30 House Democrats demanding answers from Social Security Administration (SSA) Commissioner Frank Bisignano about concerns from constituents who are struggling to access benefits. The Trump administration and the Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) changes at the agency have created excessive claim processing wait times and inaccessible field office appointments.
Today, Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) led a group of Democrats on the House Armed Services Committee in introducing an amendment demanding answers from leadership at the Department of Defense (DOD) on why they are ending a decades-long partnership to share essential satellite weather data with the National Weather Service (NWS). The Trump Administration announced that DOD would stop sharing key data used in hurricane forecasting after July 31 as the nation enters peak hurricane season.
Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) hosted a virtual town hall focused on protecting access to health care, including the importance of preserving Medicaid and Medicare. More than 13,000 constituents from across Central and Northwestern Illinois joined the call to hear updates and ask questions directly.
Throughout the event, Congressman Sorensen discussed his work in Congress to defend the Affordable Care Act, oppose cuts to Medicaid and Medicare, and lower health care costs for working families and seniors.

Last week, Congressmen Eric Sorensen (IL-17), Mike Flood (NE-1), Jared Moskowitz (FL-23), Frank Lucas (OK-3), and Jimmy Panetta (CA-19) introduced their bipartisan Weather Workforce Improvement Act to help the National Weather Service (NWS) fully staff critical positions at their offices as the country prepares for severe weather and hurricanes this summer.
