Government Accountability and Transparency

Serving as a local meteorologist for over 20 years required me to be a trusted neighbor to the people in Central and Northwestern Illinois. In Congress, I’m still working to be a trusted voice for the people of Illinois’ 17th District.
That means being willing to work with anyone – Republican or Democrat – to make sure everyone in my District has their needs met. It also means being accountable and transparent about the work I’m doing in Washington on your behalf.
If you need help from the federal government, have a question for my office, or would just like to share your view on the issues you care most about, please contact my Washington, DC or Rock Island offices any time. Contact information for these offices can be found at the bottom of this page.
More on Government Accountability and Transparency
Congressman Sorensen has submitted the following funding requests for important community projects in Illinois’ 17th Congressional District to the House Appropriations Committee.
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) has joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers in co-sponsoring the Prevent Tariff Abuse Act, a bill aimed at protecting American families, workers, and farmers from unfair and unnecessary tax hikes disguised as “emergency” tariffs. The bill makes it clear that no president should be able to raise taxes on everyday Americans without approval from Congress.
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) is fighting to protect Americans from the Trump-Musk plan to gut Social Security. Sorensen helped introduce the Keeping Our Field Offices Open Act, which aims to prevent the closure of critical Social Security field and hearing offices. This bill would ensure continued access to vital services for seniors, people with disabilities, and families across the country.
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) led 14 of his Illinois colleagues, including Senators Durbin and Duckworth, calling on the administration to refrain from their efforts to reduce the Peoria Ag Lab workforce. The letter warns Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins and Dr. Rosalind James, Midwest Area Director of the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service, that such a move would undermine the lab’s ability to support farmers, strengthen food security, and drive economic growth.
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Eric Sorensen announced today that his guest for the State of the Union address will be James Diaz, a resident of Monmouth, Illinois. Diaz, a disabled veteran who served overseas during the Gulf conflicts of the 1980s and 1990s, was unexpectedly laid off in February 2025 as a result of actions taken by the Trump administration and Elon Musk.
