Sorensen Hosts Telephone Town Hall, Discusses Impact of Potential Government Shutdown

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) hosted a telephone town hall yesterday evening with residents of Central and Northwestern Illinois. During the call, he heard from constituents directly and discussed issues of importance to communities in Illinois’ 17th Congressional District, including a potential government shutdown, the Farm Bill, and his plan to lower costs for working families.
“It’s not that we’ve got a problem with Republicans versus Democrats today. It’s that Democrats and moderate Republicans want to work together, but we’ve got extremists that want to cut these investments, which would put our economy at risk [and] force middle-class Americans to pay more for essential goods and services,” Sorensen said during the town hall event. “And so, I want to make sure that we fund the government, to keep these vital services open and get back to work creating jobs and lowering costs.”
Nearly 4,000 constituents joined Sorensen’s town hall. Special guest Luis Rivas, Jr., President of the Illinois State Association of Letter Carriers, joined the town hall and highlighted the impact of a government shutdown on federal employees and essential government services.
Sorensen also received questions about immigration, as well as his efforts to crack down on scam robocalls and texts.
