Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce legislative forum, held on Jan. 20.

Lawmakers from two states that border the Mississippi River, Illinois and Iowa legislators discussed their different approaches to getting the job done. 

Held at Bally's Quad Cities Casino & Hotel, the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce hosted a legislative forum Friday, Jan. 20. Lawmakers representing the Quad-Cities participated in the hour forum, being asked questions about business and economic growth, attracting and retaining people, and building a community where people want to live and work.

Four new out LGBTQ+ legislators will eventually be sworn into the U.S. House, just as soon as Republicans can stop infighting and pick a new Speaker.

The freshmen legislators — Robert Garcia (D-CA), Becca Balint (D-VT), Eric Sorensen (D-IL), and George Santos (R-NY) — signal a shift towards equality in the lower congressional chamber, even as it falls under Republican control.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Congressman-elect Eric Sorensen was sworn in on Saturday in Washington D.C. to begin his term as U.S. Representative from Illinois' 17th District.
