So many of our neighbors feel left behind, like the economy isn’t working for them – and they’re right. That’s why I’ve centered my work in Congress around building an economy that helps Illinois working families.
Tackling Inflation and Lowering Costs - My top priority is addressing rising costs that are hurting Illinoisans from the grocery store to the gas pump. I’m also committed to bringing down out-of-control drug prices, especially for our seniors.
Jobs – Illinois 17th District has been a hub of manufacturing and innovation for generations, in addition to having a rich farming history. I will always work to create good-paying, sustainable jobs in our communities so we can provide for our kids and grandkids.
Small Business – We need to make it easier to start and own a small business. This means cutting red tape and making sure Illinoisians have access to the resources they need to succeed. I’ll make sure Congress keeps the needs of Main Street in mind, and not just the interests of the wealthiest corporations.

On Monday, August 12, 2024, Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) appeared on WMBD during his visit to Market 309 in Peoria to discuss his efforts to bring more affordable food to Central Illinois families.
A local congressmen says John Deere isn’t planning any more layoffs. U.S. Rep. Eric Sorensen met with company officials last week, and said they told him there are no planned “workforce changes.” Sorensen wanted the sit-down with Deere after the company announced 1,500 layoffs in July. Sorensen said he is concerned about the jobs that are leaving the Quad Cities for Mexico, and said he planned to fight for local workers here. Sorensen, who represents eastern Mercer County, said the company assured him that there are no plans to move the company headquarters from Moline.
MOLINE, Ill. — U.S. Rep. Eric Sorensen (D), IL-17, met with John Deere leadership this week at the company's headquarters in Moline. Sorensen, who represents the Illinois Quad Cities area, said the meeting was to get answers on recent layoffs and future plans for Deere.
Since May, the company has announced layoffs impacting more than 1,500 workers at its production facilities and headquarters.

On Tuesday, August 20, 2024, Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) toured Martin Equipment, a John Deere equipment supplier, in Rock Island to discuss workforce challenges in the region and highlight work to create good-paying jobs in the Illinois side of the Quad Cities area.

The fact is right now, our economy isn’t working for you and your family. This can be scary for middle-class families already struggling to make ends meet. That is why I am focused on bringing down prices on everyday items and delivering relief to Illinoisans who are working hard just to stay above water.
ROCK ISLAND, IL - Today, Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) released the following statement in response to news that John Deere will lay off workers in the Quad Cities area.
The bipartisan All-American Flag Act proposed by Illinois District 17 Congressman Eric Sorensen has passed unanimously in the U.S. House of Representatives, a media release said.
According to the media release, the All-American Flag Act requires the federal government to only purchase flags that are entirely produced and manufactured in the United States.
