PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) announced Thursday that the Peoria-based OSF HealthCare System is receiving funding to expand nurse training throughout the state.

“Healthcare professionals sacrifice so much while playing a vital role in our Central and Northwestern Illinois communities,” said Sorensen. “I’m honored to announce federal grant funding to support our hardworking nurses and improve the quality of care provided to families across our region.”

A space leader on Capitol Hill is looking at how to eliminate gaps between the agencies that oversee human spaceflight over concerns about maintaining the highest safety standards.

Rep. Eric Sorensen (D-IL), the ranking member of the House space subcommittee, pointed out the multitude of groups that have a hand in regulating spaceflight, from the FAA to the FCC to the Commerce Department to the DoD. He said it’s something he wants to address in the NASA reauthorization bill, which Congress is in the midst of considering.

As we celebrate Labor Day, I’m thinking about hard-working families across central and northwestern Illinois who still feel left behind.

High costs and stagnant wages are still making it difficult for middle-class families to make ends meet. At the same time, big corporations are reporting record profits and the wealthiest one percent continues to get wealthier.

This weekend, let’s take a moment to recognize the ones who really built this country — the American worker. And the workers, coming together to bargain collectively, who built a strong middle class.

This was done as a way to learn more about how they utilize U.S. Small Business Administration funding.

Among the issues discussed were infrastructure, electric vehicles, and bringing better jobs to the region. Rep. Sorensen said he wants to have these discussions with constituents.
